The need to reduce environmental impact of chemical processes has induced a surge of attention in the choice of solvent and methodologies to carry them out. In this context, we studied the Diels–Alder reaction using N-ethylmaleimide as dienophile and changing the nature of the diene in deep eutectic solvents (DES) under both conventional heating and ultrasonic activation. DES obtained by the combination of different hydrogen bond acceptors and donors allowed assessing the role played by solvent ...

Photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to fuels is a sustainable approach to obtain clean energy from CO2 using solar energy. This work focuses on a multipronged approach for efficient photoreduction of CO2 by designing a CdS/ZnO heterojunction photocatalyst. It is found that the combination of CdS and ZnO leads to about 11 times higher activity (383 K) for the reduction of CO2 to fuels than that over CdS under the irradiation of visible light. This is ascribed to the well-matched structural and intri...

Boron nitride (BN) is newly introduced as a nonmetal electro-catalyst for the counter electrode of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). By applying a conductive binder of sulfonated poly(thiophene-3-[2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy]-2,5-diyl) (s-PT), the BN/s-PT composite film was successfully wrapped around each carbon fiber (CF) in the flexible carbon cloth (CC) substrate via a low-cost drop-coating method. Each CF in the CC provided a one-dimensional electron transfer core, and the wrapped BN/s-PT...
