Iso-cytoplasmic restorers (ICRs) are valuable source of fertility restoration for three linerice hybrids derived from wild- abortive cytosterile (WA-CMS) lines. They carry a full complement of fertility restorer (Rf) genes and sterile cytoplasm. We have test-crossed a set of 25 ICRs with four WA-CMS lines namely, IR 79156A, IR 58025A, Pusa 6A and RTN 12A following a line x tester mating design. Significant estimates of general and specific combining ability for agro-morphological traits revealed...
The present investigation was carried out to determine the genetic purity of the crosses in chickpea using SSR markers. The application of molecular markers SSR21 and SSR22 in F1 hybrids and their parental lines produced two bands indicating similarity among the hybrids and parental lines. The mixtures and off-types did not show similar banding pattern as compared to hybrids. The D2 analysis showed high amount of genetic diversity among parents and parental lines. The value of heterosis in a cro...

The present study was carried out to evaluate eight promising Spanish bunch groundnut genotypes during four consecutive year (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) to study genotype × environmental interactions and to identify stable sources of fresh seed dormancy in Spanish background in groundnut. Pooled analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among the genotypes and genotype × environmental interactions for fresh seed dormancy at weekly intervals indicating that differential behavior o...

A study was conducted to study mode of inheritance of qualitative and quantitative traits in six inter sub-specific crosses (Lens culinaris × Lens culinaris ssp. orientalis). The results showed monogenic inheritance for leaf pigmentation, leaf pubescence, seed cotyledon color and digenic inheritance for tendril formation and seedling stem pigmentation. A wide range of genetic variability was observed agronomically important quantitative traits in inter sub-specific crosses. Further, transgressiv...

Chloroplast genome is important because of its maternally inherited, conserved within species and stable in structure. This allows elucidation of inter-specific comparison, identification and establishment of evolutionary relationship among different species. Different classes of DNA elements were present in chloroplast genome of Oryza species, among them chloroplast microsatellites were supposed to be highly variable. In this study, a total of 102 sequences of chloroplast genome of 23 species o...

Fourteen pummelo (Citrus maxima Merr.) fruit varieties were evaluated through morphological and molecular methods to determine the genetic diversity among them. The analysis showed that maximum contribution (60%) towards diversity was due to the number of fruits per tree and rag percentage. Principal component analysis explained 80.26% of the total observed variability. Molecular characterization of pummelo varieties using 60 SSR markers revealed 26 polymorphic SSR loci having 77 amplified allel...

The present study was conducted to transfer multiple rust resistance in a popular but rust susceptible wheat cultivar HS295. Selected derivatives WBM3632 and WBM3635 have been developed from a cross, HS295*2/FLW20//HS295*2/ FLW13 using bulk-pedigree method of breeding. Advance line WBM3697 selected from a breeding line WBM3532 was named as HS661. This line was evaluated for seedling resistance to a wide array of rust pathotypes and found to possess resistance to all the three rusts. HS661 was al...

In this paper 60 doubled haploid lines of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) were studied. Genetic parameters as additive and epistatic effects were estimated for 24 traits. The results indicate the importance of both these effects for number of branches per plant, number of siliques per plant, linoleic acid, total of glucosinolates, total of alkenyl glucosinolates, gluconapin, glucobrassicanapin, progoitryn, napoleiferin and indolyl in both years of this study. Statistically significant ep...

Micronutrient malnutrition is one of the major health problem, especially iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) deficiencies that are widespread coupled with inadequate food supply in the developing world. Pearl millet grains are a good source of Fe and Zn elements making it a potential staple crop for overcoming hidden-hunger and micronutrient deficiencies. Breeding pearl millet with high levels of grain Zn and Fe contents represents a major opportunity to enhance the intake of these minerals for poor and ma...

Biofortification of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) with improved iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) will have great impact as it is an indispensable component of nutritional security of inhabitants of arid and semi-arid regions. Ten genotypes along with checks were evaluated in RBD in six locations during kharif, 2016 under rainfed conditions. Significant differences were observed in genotype, environment and genotype × environment interaction mean squares for grain Fe and Zn contents, indic...
