Using Huawei as an example, this paper analyses the catch-up process of latecomers from emerging markets during their transition towards global technological frontiers. We designed innovative indicators using USPTO patent data and used them to measure Huawei's catch-up in an established and an emerging technology field. We measure overall innovation capability (OIC) and core innovation capability (CIC), benchmarked against global forerunners, during its transition to industry leadership. Our fin...

ABSTRACTBased on the framework of ‘M&A size-integration process-innovation outputs’, we re-examine the relationship between M&A and post-acquisition innovation performance, and the moderating effect of post-acquisition R&D investment. Using zero-inflated negative binomial regression with data on mergers and acquisitions of 277 high-tech firms in China from 2005 to 2015, we found that M&A size has an inverted U-shaped effect on post-acquisition innovation performance. Post-acquisition R&D investm...

ABSTRACTAlthough the importance of technological convergence has increased, previous studies are highly dependent on static analysis. In response, this study suggests an index-based approach to identifying the dynamic trend of individual technologies, which enables the in-depth analysis for advances or declines of technological convergence. We suggest two types of indexes: fluctuation and continuity, and suggest eight sub-indexes to analyse the dynamic patterns of technological convergence for e...
