BACKGROUND: Previous studies on different periacetabular osteotomy approaches for correction of hip dysplasia disagree on the time course of normalisation of muscle function postoperatively, some stating that especially hip flexor function is not fully normalised after 12 months. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate hip function during walking before, and 6 and 12 months after minimally invasive periacetabular osteotomy. METHODS: Using conventional 3D inverse dynamics followed by s...

Abstract Two-stage revision with ‘StageOne™ Select Hip Cement Spacer’ is used as treatment of periprosthetic hip joint infection. The aim is to evaluate complications and restoration the joint with the StageOne Select Spacer. From 2013 to 2018 twenty-nine StageOne Select Spacers was inserted. Data was obtained through medical records and radiographs. 3.5% dislocated the spacer, 6.9% sustained a femoral fracture, 6.9% got reinfected and 6.9% failed to control the infection. Leg length discrepancy...

BACKGROUND/AIM: It remains challenging to evaluate the in vivo pathophysiological biochemical characteristics in spine tissue, due to lack of an applicable model and feasible methods. The aim of this study was to apply microdialysis for the assessment of basic metabolites from the C3-C4 intervertebral disc, C3 vertebral cancellous bone and subcutaneous adipose tissue in a large porcine model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 7 pigs, glucose, pyruvate, lactate and glycerol concentrations were evaluated ...

Local treatment with gentamicin may be an important tool in the prevention and treatment of surgical site infections in high-risk procedures and patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetic profile of gentamicin in bone and surrounding tissue, released from a controlled application of a GentaColl sponge in a porcine model. In eight female pigs, a GentaColl sponge of 10 x 10 cm (1.3 mg gentamicin/cm(2) ) was placed in a cancellous bone cavity in the proximal tibia. Microdia...

This review summarises the present knowledge of diagnosing and treating hip joint pain. The results of joint preserving surgery are good in symptomatic patients with hip dysplasia, acetabular retroversion or impingement (cam or pincer) without signs of osteoarthritis. Confirmation of intraarticular pathology as the cause of symptoms is established clinically, and the pathology can in many cases be visualised by a standing, standardised radiograph of the pelvis, which is the basis for admission t...

Introduction Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is an established treatment for adolescent and adult patients with hip dysplasia. However, the efficacy of PAO has not been tested against another surgical intervention or conservative treatment in a randomised controlled trial before. We suggest that progressive resistance training (PRT) could be an alternative to PAO. The primary aim of this trial is therefore to examine the efficacy of PAO followed by 4 months of usual care followed by 8 months of P...
