Abstract Cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanorods are fabricated on Silicon (Si) nanopillars surface via hydrothermal reaction method for the first time. To optimize the growth condition, the thickness of CdS seed film, temperature and time of hydrothermal reaction are researched in this work. It is found that 30 to 60 nm seed layer at the 180 °C for 5 h is the optimal condition for CdS nanorods growth on Si nanopillars surface.
