This study investigated the influence of refugee status on the occurrence of enuresis. It was performed among school children aged 6 to 11 years and their parents in the Vukovarsko-srijemska County (eastern Croatia), which had many displaced persons and refugees (mostly women and children) in the 1990s due to the wars in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. A specially designed questionnaire (about the child’s age and gender, the child’s enuresis history and that of the parents, and data on paren...

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) and renewable energy sources are complementary technologies from the power system viewpoint, where renewable energy sources behave as flexibility sinks and create business opportunities for BESS as flexibility sources. Various stakeholders can use BESS to balance, stabilize and flatten demand/generation patterns. These applications depend on the stakeholder role, flexibility service needed from the battery, market opportunities and obstacles, as well as regu...

Ancillary services used for active power balancing are called balancing services or operating reserves and their provision is vital for maintaining power system frequency at the nominal value. In a deregulated environment, where generation is unbundled from transmission and distribution operations, independently owned generating companies may elect to provide operating reserves. However, it is not easy to calculate the exact cost of reserve provision and, therefore, bid for it accurately. Althou...

The first of this two-paper series proposes and elaborates a concept of electric vehicle (EV)-based e-mobility system. To this end, models designed to reap the benefits of EVs' flexibility in the literature almost exclusively consider charging stations as active players exploiting the EVs' flexibility. Such stations are seen as static loads able to provide flexibility only when EVs are connected to them. However, this standpoint suffers from two major issues. First, the charging stations need to...

This is the second paper of a two-paper series on smart e-mobility. The concept defined in the first paper is further elaborated and mathematically formulated in here. A case study is conducted to evaluate the differences between the proposed electric-vehicle-based and the existing charging-station-based emobility systems. Each of the four issues identified in the first paper are individually examined and omission of corresponding constraints are analyzed and quantified.
