In this paper, a real time virtual monitoring system for photovoltaic water pumping plant is developed. The aim of the proposed system is to investigate the characteristic and evaluate the performance of this kind of renewable energy based application. Hence a generic remote monitoring system - that is suitable and easily implemented for such application - is presented. This paper describes a novel data acquisition system designed and implemented with facilities for measuring and monitoring the characteristics of a PV solar cell, module and/or system.
