AbstractA well-designed level basin irrigation system is easy to manage and has significant potential for achieving high application efficiency and improved salinity control, particularly when the field is laser-leveled. Over the years, three different criteria have arisen to design level basin irrigation systems. These are the volume-balance design criterion proposed by the Soil Conservation Service of the USDA, the limiting length design criterion, and the completion-of-advance design criterio...

The performance of furrow irrigation systems in terms of application efficiency, runoff ratio, and water requirement efficiency were evaluated at nine different sites within the Provinces of Fergana (6 sites) and Andijon (3 sites) in Uzbekistan. A total of 46 irrigation events were evaluated during the year 2009, whereas only a total of 8 irrigation events (at 3 sites) were evaluated during the year 2010. Most of the selected fields have slopes greater than 0.005; hence, the average runoff volum...

A friction correction factor (Fcp) for use in the estimation of friction loss in a center-pivot irrigation system lateral is derived. The results obtained using the Fcp are compared with the results obtained using other methods of estimating friction loss. A significant difference in the estimated friction loss was observed between this coefficient and the one derived by Christiansen for linear-move sprinkler systems.
