Abstract The Xiaotongchang basalt-hosted copper deposit in Jinping, southern Yunnan Province, SW China, is located in the southern part of the Emeishan large igneous province. Here, we use Rb-Sr, Re-Os and S-Pb-C-O isotope data to constrain the age and genesis of the deposit. Petrological investigations reveal two main stages of mineralization. Liujiaping VMS (volcanic massive sulfide) deposit contains mainly copper and zinc, which is located at the Longmenshan orogenic belt of the northwestern margin of Yangtze block. Abstract We report on a new mechanical principle, which suggests that a confined liquid in the elastic lithosphere has the potential to transmit a maximum applied compressive stress. This stress can be transmitted to the internal contacts between rock and liquid and would then be transformed into a normal compressive stress with tangential tensile stress components. The Palaeoproterozoic Luoling granites occur along the southern margin of the North China Craton. They are rich in silica and total alkalis with SiO2 contents ranging from 65.18 to 72.72 wt.%, K2O from 4.68 to 6.62 wt.%, and Na2O from 1.35 to 4.88 wt.%.
