This study measured the proportion of articles by authors affiliated with library and information science (LIS)-related institutions and proportion of LIS authors in each journal using 3224 articles published in 75 journals in 2015 in the category of information science and library science as assigned by journal citation reports (JCR). Only 33.3% of journals published over half of their articles by LIS authors. Over half of authors affiliated with LIS institutions were identified in only 30.7% o...

This study used coauthorship analysis to investigate trends in researcher–practitioner collaborations by examining articles published between 2005 and 2014 in the disciplines of library and information science, education, and sociology. The results revealed that articles coauthored by researchers were the main type of research collaboration in these three disciplines. Articles coauthored by researchers and practitioners were the third largest type of research collaboration in all three disciplin...

This study investigated authorship definitions listed on 1065 journal websites, representing seven social science disciplines. The results showed that 51.3% of the journals do not have an established authorship definition. Journals with high impact factors do not necessarily have an established authorship definition. Up to 81.1% of law journals lack authorship definitions, whereas the lowest proportion of journals having no authorship definitions was identified in the business domain. Authorship...

This study investigated the external contributors of library and information science (LIS) knowledge who were unaffiliated with LIS-related institutions but published their research results in LIS journals. Differences between the contributors to library science (LS) and contributors to information science (IS) were considered. Articles published in 39 strongly LIS-oriented journals indexed in the Web of Science database between 2005 and 2014 were analyzed. The results demonstrated that 46.5% of...

Abstract This study investigated the characteristics of multi-institutional authors and the academic impact of their articles in the fields of genetics and high-energy physics. The findings showed that the percentage of articles written by multi-institutional authors (87.3%) and the percentage of multi-institutional authors (27.8%) in genetics were higher than those (50.4% articles and 17.1% authors) in high-energy physics. Increasing trends were observed in the annual percentages of multi-insti...

Abstract This bibliometric analysis explores the interdisciplinary characteristics of library and information science (LIS) from the perspective of interdisciplinary LIS authors. Articles published in non-LIS journals by LIS authors between 2005 and 2014 and indexed by the Web of Science database formed the basis for analysis. The results showed that interdisciplinary LIS authors published articles in numerous disciplines; a largest number of articles were found in medical and music journals. Ov...

Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyse and explore the characteristics of patent–paper pairs (PPPs) in the field of fuel cells. Design/methodology/approach The authors used bibliometric analysis to analyse the bibliometric records of PPPs identified from 20,758 papers and 8,112 utility patents between 1991 and 2010. Findings The findings show that the percentages of papers and patents constituting PPPs were low, but an increasing trend was identified in the absolute number of PPPs. Rese...

This study analyzed the characteristics of coactivity in the field of fuel cells at institutional and individual levels by examining Science Citation Index papers and U.S. patents between 1991 and 2010. The findings reveal that few coactive institutions or individuals adopt a balanced approach to publishing papers and filing patents. Substantial differences in productivity were observed between research institutions and companies. Research institutions focus on research and publications, whereas...
