Molybdenum (Mo) has wide applications like as alloying elements in steel industries and in experimental laboratories as a catalyst for organic synthesis and as scintillating crystals in high-energy physics experiments. The primary mineral resources of Mo have been ceaselessly exploited and are insufficient to meet the demand in manufacturing industries and experimental researches. Separation, purification, recovery and reuse of Mo will, therefore, be of great importance for environmental conserv...

Abstract Single crystal of Ce doped Gd3Ga3Al2O12 is one of the most studied advanced scintillators currently. The scintillation kinetics has been investigated with different excitations. The higher excitation density of alpha particles quenches the scintillation light yield but on the contrary the decay curve gets accelerated with gamma rays unlike that have been typically observed for conventionally used halide scintillators. In view of resolving this unusual behavior, a thorough investigation ...

Abstract NaY(MoO4)2 crystal was investigated as a promising scintillator for neutrinoless double beta decay experiment. In this study, NaY(MoO4)2 crystal was grown by the Vertical Bridgman method using spontaneous crystallization. The as-grown NaY(MoO4)2 crystal appeared dark blue in color. The powder X-Ray Diffraction, optical transmission spectra at room temperature, luminescence properties and decay time from room temperature to 10 K excited by a 280 nm light emitting diode source were invest...

Observations of galaxies and primordial radiation suggest that the Universe is made mostly of non-luminous dark matter. Several types of new fundamental particles have been proposed as candidates for dark matter such as weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) but no definitive signal has been seen despite concerted efforts by many collaborations. One exception is the much-debated claim by the DAMA collaboration of a statistically significant annual modulation in the event rate of their expe...

Abstract Ultrafast Electron Diffraction (UED) system, using an electron bunch of the duration with less than 100 fs and of the energy with 3 MeV, has been developed as a tool probing the ultrafast dynamics in pump–probe experiments. To keep the temporal and transverse characteristics of the electron bunch for the time-resolved electron diffraction, the bunch charge is limited to be the pico-Coulomb or less. S-band transverse deflecting cavity working on T M 120 mode is designed, fabricated, and ...

Abstract Tl2ZrCl6 (TZC) crystal is an efficient scintillator for high energy γ-ray detection due to its high effective atomic number, high light yield and good energy resolution. This crystal with the dimension of diameter 10 mm and length 50 mm is grown from the melt by using vertical Bridgman technique. In this communication, we report on its pulse shape discrimination (PSD) capability for the signals induced by α-particles and γ-rays from 241Am and 137Cs sources, respectively. Three PSD metho...

Abstract A PbMoO4 single crystal with optically good quality and crack free, bulk crystal is grown by the low thermal gradient Czochralski method. The luminescence and scintillation properties of the grown crystal are measured under the excitations by 4.4 eV UV, 662 keV γ, 5.5 MeV α, and β in the temperature range of 10–300 K. The light yield under UV and β excitations are found to enhance down to 10 K, however quenched below 50 K under γ and α excitations. The major luminescence and scintillati...

Observations of galaxies and primordial radiation suggest that the Universe is made mostly of non-luminous dark matter1,2. Several new types of fundamental particle have been proposed as candidates for dark matter3, such as weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs)4,5. These particles would be expected to interact with nuclei in suitable detector materials on Earth, for example, causing them to recoil. However, no definitive signal from such dark-matter interactions has been detected despite ...

Abstract CaMoO4 crystal is a promising scintillator for investigating the neutrinoless double beta decay process and is commonly grown by the Czochralski method. In this study, CaMoO4 single crystals were grown by the vertical Bridgman method using both spontaneous crystallization and seed crystal approaches. The CaMoO4 crystal grown using the spontaneous crystallization approach exhibited yellow, light blue, and deep blue colours (from top to middle part of the ingot). The thermal expansion coe...
