OBJECTIVE: Hepatitis B virus infection is a major social and economic burden in developing countries, especially in China. We aimed to evaluate the effects of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive status on the pregnancy outcomes in the Chinese population. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study was performed using data from the Medical Birth Registry of Xiamen, China, from January 2011 to March 2018. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between th...

Our aim is to assess the optimal cutoff value of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in Chinese women at 24–28 weeks’ gestation by performing oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) to improve diagnostic rate of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Data were derived from the Medical Birth Registry of Xiamen. A FPG cutoff value of 5.1 mmol/L confirmed the diagnosis of GDM in 4,794 (6.10%) pregnant women. However, a FPG cutoff value of 4.5 mmol/L should rule out the diagnosis of GDM in 35,932 (45.73%) pregnan...

Abstract The purpose of this study was to observe the functions of preconditioning with endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) whether alleviated heart ischemia/reperfusion injury (HI/RI) via modulating IRE1/ATF6/RACK1/PERK and PGC-1α expressions in diabetes mellitus (DM) or not. Diabetic rats were pretreated with 0.6 mg/kg tunicamycin (TM, 0.6 mg/kg tunicamycin was administered via intraperitoneal injection 30 minutes prior to the I/R procedures), and then subjected to 45 minutes of ischemia and 3 ...

Background It has been reported that earlier age at menarche is associated with a higher risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, the relationship between age at menarche and gestational diabetes mellitus is inconsistent across studies. We hypothesized that an earlier age at menarche would predict the gestational diabetes mellitus risk.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is identified as a potential biomarker for liver diseases. However, information is limited regarding serum FGF21 and impaired liver function in hyperthyroidism. We aim to determine the potential association of serum FGF21 levels with impaired liver enzymes in hyperthyroid patients. In this case-control study, 105 normal subjects and 122 overt hyperthyroid patients were included. Among them, 41 hyperthyroid patients who obtained euthyroid status after thionamid...
