Abstract Since the introduction of master-slave manipulators (otherwise known as telemanipulators) in 1990, minimally invasive surgery paved way for the development of the first robotic surgical systems to overcome the limitations of laparoscopic surgery. Over the last decade, the robotic system has rapidly gained acceptance and popularity among surgeons, especially colorectal surgeons around the world. Advantages of robotic surgical systems includes superior instrumentation and stable field of ...

Abstract Background Rectal cancer surgery conveys significant morbidity/mortality, long-term functional impairment and urinary & sexual dysfunction, especially if associated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (ChRT). Watch & Wait (WW 78 (63%) with cCR entered W&W. Twenty three developed RG and underwent surgery, while 55 remain under surveillance. RDS group had lower tumors than NDS group (2.3 cm ± 2 vs 4.5 cm ± 3, p = 0.002). All RG underwent minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Anastomotic leaks,...

Purpose Two non-inferiority randomised control trials have questioned the utility of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer by failing to prove that pathological markers of high-quality surgery are equivalent to those achieved by open technique. We present short- and long-term post-operative outcomes from the largest single surgeon series of consecutive patients undergoing laparoscopic TME for rectal cancer. We describe the standardised laparoscopic technique developed by the principal surgeon, ...

Objective: Paediatric ovarian germ cell tumours (GCTs) are rare tumours with malignant tumours extremely rare. Methods: All the paediatric patients who received treatment for histology proven ovarian GCT at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital from January 2006 to December 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients over the age of 18 years were excluded from the study. A total of 109 patients were included in the study. A set of parameters were identified to record initial clinical presenta...

Background: Staging the axilla via Sentinel Node biopsy (SLNBx) is a standard technique for clinically and radiologically negative patients. The timing to do the SLNBx before or after Neo Adj Chemo (NAC) is controversial. The aim of the study is to see the outcomes of SLNBX in our patients who underwent NAC in clinically and radiological negative axilla. Methods: Retrospective analysis of all patients from 2009–2013 were included with clinically and radiologically node negative axilla, requiring...
