Hydrocarbon generation is a process of adding H and removing S, N, and other heteroatoms. Traditional theories of hydrocarbon generation and the evaluation of oil and gas reservoirs both neglect consideration of the influence of exogenous H2. To probe the possibility that exogenous H2 from water radiolysis influences hydrocarbon generation by source rocks, data from water radiolysis experiments are collected, and factors affecting H2 yield are summarized. The results indicate that the hydrogen y...

The distribution of remaining oil is affected by a number of geological and engineering factors. However, previous studies have mainly focused on the effect of a certain factor or some factors on the distribution of remaining oil. Therefore, this research considers subaqueous distributary channels of Fuyu oil layer in the Fuyu oilfield as a case with following investigations: analysis of the controlling effects of micro-structure, sedimentary micro-facies, single sand body stacking, architecture...

This study discusses the formation mechanisms of the delta front reservoir of K1q4 of the Quantou Formation in the central region of the Fuyu oil field and summarizes the types of deposition based on an analysis of facies markers and a comprehensive study of the sedimentary microfacies using well cores, logs, and geologic data. The results show that K1q4 of the Quantou Formation mainly formed through shallow-water sedimentation on a delta front and includes five sedimentary microfacies: underwat...

Petrographical and geochemical characteristics of the Paleogene sandstones in the Ningnan Basin, NW China, were studied by analyzing thin sections and major, trace, and rare earth element (REE) compositions. The sandstones of the Sikouzi and Qingshuiying formations are sublitharenite to feldspathic litharenite and characterized by low-medium compositional and textural maturity. Petrographic provenance study indicates a quartzose-recycled provenance with higher concentration of Zr in the Qingshui...

Abstract The Paleozoic tectonic framework of the eastern Hexi Corridor Belt is ambiguous. However, thick Paleozoic sediments from the eastern Hexi Corridor Belt can provide clues to this problem. In this paper, we deal with the detrital zircon provenance of Middle Ordovician to Late Devonian strata using LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating, documenting the temporal and spatial changes of provenance. Detrital zircon U–Pb ages indicate that the primary provenance was the Qilian Orogenic Belt and the Alxa Block....

Based on seismic, logging, and drilling data, we analyzed the fault system in the Liaodong Bay area of the Bohai Bay basin, China, and the basin’s evolution. In addition, we studied the local Cenozoic tectonic style, its development, and its effect on hydrocarbon trap. Our results indicate that deformed strata in the Liaodong Bay area are well represented by two layers: a shallow layer (N1g) was deformed by strike-slip and extension, and a deep layer (Eocene) was deformed by extensional effects....
