Le but a ete d’etudier l’...

We previously showed that AHI scored in respiratory polygraphy (AHI PG:24.2±21.5), in PG associated with the automatic analysis of an EEG channel (AHI PG+:29.4±23.7) and in PSG (AHI PSG 31.0±24.6) were significantly different (p To explore the difference between AHI PG and AHI PSG, we studied 25 patients (47yrs,12M,33kg/m2) suspected of OSAS by ambulatory PSG (CID-LXe by Cidelec) with an additional EEG (CzPz). 2 blinded somnologists(S1, S2) scored: first respiratory events in PG on total recorde...

Abstract Background Impaired sleep efficiency is independently associated with worse prognosis in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Therefore, a test was conducted on whether auto-servo ventilation (ASV, biphasic positive airway pressure [BiPAP]–ASV, Philips Respironics) reduces sleep fragmentation and improves sleep efficiency in CHF patients with central sleep apnea (CSA) or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Methods In this multicenter, randomized, parallel group trial, a study was condu...

Abstract Sleep/wake disorders are frequently associated with anxiety and depression and to elevated levels of cortisol. Even though these alterations are increasingly sought in animal models, no study has investigated the specific effects of chronic corticosterone (CORT) administration on sleep. We characterized sleep/wake disorders in a neuroendocrine mouse model of anxiety/depression, based on chronic CORT administration in the drinking water (35 μg/ml for 4 weeks, “CORT model”). The CORT mode...

Background: It is of debate, whether treatment of central sleep apnea (SA) reduces sleep fragmentation. Therefore, we tested, whether auto-servo ventilation (ASV, BiPAP-ASV, Philips Respironics) reduces sleep fragmentation in heart failure (HF) patients with severe central or obstructive SA. Methods: 42 patients with HF (age 66±9y, LVEF <40%) and SDB (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI 48±19/h, 51% central SA) were randomized to either ASV (n=21) or optimal medical treatment alone (control, n=21). Polyso...

In the ESADA study, each of the 23 participating centers used its own routine clinical and diagnostic procedures for OSA detection. Alltogether, data from 8228 patients with suspected OSA (M or F, 18–80 yrs) were analysed in order to compare results obtained by polygraphy (PG) (n= 5032) or polysomnography (PSG) (n=3196). The AASM 2007 criteria have been used for visual scoring of apnoea/hypopnoea and in addition in a PSG study, an event with ≤50% flow reduction, associated with arousal was also ...

Background: Auto-servo ventilation (ASV) has been shown to effectively suppress sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). However, the effects of ASV on cardiac function, daytime activity and quality of life are unclear (QOL). Methods: Patients with stable optimised CHF (Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤40%) and SDB (Apnoea-Hypopnoea Index (AHI) ≥20/hour) were randomised to either ASV (BiPAP ASV, Philips Respironics, n=37) or the control-group (n...
