Abstract Objectives Limited research has been conducted to investigate the characteristics of money boys (MBs) in China. This study was aimed to identify the subgroups of MBs based on sexual behaviors, Net-based venue sex-seeking, and substance abuse. Study design Cross-sectional study. Methods Convenience sampling was used to recruit MBs from December 2014 to June 2015 in Tianjin, China. Face-to-face interviews were conducted for 330 MBs, and trained interviewers collected data. Results The lab...

The 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin plus oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) regimen is the standard first-line treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), however, the optimal second-line regimen for KRAS wild-type mCRC patients is still investigational. In this study, we aimed to determine the clinical efficacy and safety of CMAB009 plus irinotecan compared to irinotecan-only as a second-line regimen for treating KRAS wild-type mCRC patients. Patients with KRAS wild-type mCRC who had previously failed to re...

An experiment was conducted to improve rhizoremediation for decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) contaminated soil from typical E-waste dismantling areas. Plants of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.) were cultivated in aged-contaminated (initial concentration of 346.3 μg BDE-209kg−1) and freshly-spiked (initial concentration of 3127 μg BDE-209g−1) soils, coupling with the agricultural modification strategies of compost addition and/or arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) infec...

Hypothalamic neurons expressing the anorectic peptide Pro-opiomelanocortin (Pomc) regulate food intake and body weight. Here, we show that Steroid Receptor Coactivator-1 (SRC-1) interacts with a target of leptin receptor activation, phosphorylated STAT3, to potentiate Pomc transcription. Deletion of SRC-1 in Pomc neurons in mice attenuates their depolarization by leptin, decreases Pomc expression and increases food intake leading to high-fat diet-induced obesity. In humans, fifteen rare heterozy...

Background Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is one of the most serious global public health problems. The role of steroid receptor coactivator 3 (SRC-3) in HBV biosynthesis is unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the function of SRC-3 in regulating HBV biosynthesis both in vitro and in vivo and to identify the underlying mechanism.

This study evaluated hepatic lesion volumes on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) images in patients with pyrrolizidine alkaloid-induced sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (PA-SOS) and the association of lesion volume with the clinical severity and prognosis of the disease. Twenty-five patients with PA-SOS were included in this study, and all patients were subjected to a complete CT imaging series. The imaging results were quantitatively analyzed by a threshold-based region growing algorith...

The human gastric mucosa is the most active layer of the stomach wall, involved in food digestion, metabolic processes and gastric carcinogenesis. Anatomically, the human stomach is divided into seven regions, but the protein basis for cellular specialization is not well understood. Here we present a global analysis of protein profiles of 82 apparently normal mucosa samples obtained from living individuals by endoscopic stomach biopsy. We identify 6,258 high-confidence proteins and estimate the ...

Abstract Conducting integrated analysis of the source, exposure and health risk of heavy metals is critical for developing mitigation strategies of soil contamination. Taking the former electronic waste (e-waste) dismantling center in China as an example this study quantitatively apportioned source contribution of soil heavy metals in this area by statistical analysis and positive matrix factorization (PMF) model. Furthermore, the human health risk of identified sources were quantified by combin...

Abstract Farmland contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) has drawn increasing attention across China with enhanced regulations and environmental policies proposed by government to protect soil environment safety. As the informal electronic waste (e-waste) dismantling activities were forbidden under recent environmental regulation, this study compared levels, compositions, spatial distributions, human health risks of PAHs in paddy soil within the vicinity of an e-waste recycling...

The JACOB trial (NCT01774786) was a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized, multicenter, international, phase III trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of adding pertuzumab to trastuzumab and chemotherapy in first-line treatment of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive metastatic gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (GEJC). The aim of this analysis was to investigate efficacy and safety outcomes in the Chinese subpopulation from the JACOB trial. This post...
