BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to clarify the prevalence of immunosuppressive drug use and outcomes in elderly and non-elderly patients with primary membranous nephropathy (MN) in nationwide real-world practice in Japan. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 2009 and 2010, 374 patients with primary nephrotic syndrome were enrolled in the cohort study (The Japan Nephrotic Syndrome Cohort Study, JNSCS), including 126 adult patients with MN. Their clinical characteristics were compared with tho...

BACKGROUND: There have been only a few large-scale cohort studies that have reviewed accumulated cases of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). The aim of this study was to collect and analyze TMA cases based on the renal biopsy, as a nationwide survey in Japan. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, large nationwide data from the Japan Renal Biopsy Registry (J-RBR) were used. Among the patients registered in the J-RBR online system from July 2007 to July 2017, TMA cases were extracted and epidemio...

The Japan Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Database (J-CKD-DB) is a large-scale, nation-wide registry based on electronic health record (EHR) data from participating university hospitals. Using a standardized exchangeable information storage, the J-CKD-DB succeeded to efficiently collect clinical data of CKD patients across hospitals despite their different EHR systems. CKD was defined as dipstick proteinuria ≥1+ and/or estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 base on both out- and in...

Arteriovenous fistula puncture pain is a serious problem for patients undergoing dialysis and a good indication for topical anesthetics. No previous study has compared lidocaine/prilocaine cream (EMLA) with lidocaine tape for pain relief during arteriovenous fistula puncture in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. To this end, we conducted a multicenter randomized crossover study including 66 patients (mean age, 65.8 years; males, 57.6%) undergoing maintenance hemodialysis thrice/week. ...

Despite recent advances in immunosuppressive therapy for patients with primary nephrotic syndrome, its effectiveness and safety have not been fully studied in recent nationwide real-world clinical data in Japan. A 5-year cohort study, the Japan Nephrotic Syndrome Cohort Study, enrolled 374 patients with primary nephrotic syndrome in 55 hospitals in Japan, including 155, 148, 38, and 33 patients with minimal change disease (MCD), membranous nephropathy (MN), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FS...

Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) due to atherosclerosis is a major cause of death in renal allograft recipients. Recently, C1q/TNF-α related protein-9 (CTRP9), which is a paralog of adiponectin (ADPN), has been suggested to be related to the prevention of atherosclerosis and the occurrence of CVD, but this relationship has not been confirmed in renal allograft recipients.
