Lipases with high tolerance to temperature play a significant role in industry from food manufacturing to waste management systems. Thus, there is a need to investigate these enzymes from different geographical areas to look out for a more thermo-stable one. Characterization of lipases through experimental approaches is time consuming process and sometimes the results are ambiguous due to errors. However, integration of computational technologies is quite useful for prediction of optimized condi...

Extremophiles, the microorganisms thriving in extreme environments, provide valuable resources for practicing novel biotechnological processes. Pakistan homes a wide spectrum of extreme environments which harbor various biotechnologically significant microorganisms. This review gauges the structural and functional bacterial diversity of several extreme environments, emphasizing their potentials as a source of extremozymes, and in bioleaching, bioremediation, and bioenergy production at regional ...

Ralstonia solanacearum is a soil-borne plant pathogen that infects more than 200 plant species. Its broad host range and long-term survival under different environmental stress conditions suggest that it uses a variety of mechanisms to protect itself against various types of biotic and abiotic stress. R. solanacearum produces a melanin-like brown pigment in the stationary phase when grown in minimal medium containing tyrosine. To gain deeper insight into the genetic determinants involved in mela...

Triclosan, the widely used biocide, specifically targets enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (ENR) in the bacterial fatty acid synthesis system. Although the fish pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida exhibits triclosan resistance, the nature of this resistance has not been elucidated. Here, we aimed to characterize the triclosan resistance of A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida causing furunculosis. The fosmid library of triclosan-resistant A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida was const...

Ralstonia solanacarum a plant pathogen which causes lethal wilt disease in members of solanceaous plant family. The pathogen can survive in soil for a long time under stress condition. In a stationary phase, we recognized that R. solanacearum GMI1000 wild type strain produced brown pigment in broth culture. The brown pigmentation was much faster in the liquid medium supplemented with tyrosine which is a melanin pigment precursor. To iden-tify genes responsible for melanin-like pigment production...

Different crude fractions of Equisetum ravens were analyzed for their chemical evaluation, vitamins and bioactive secondary metabolite. The results revealed the presence of bioactive constituents comprising alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, phenols and tannins. The medicinal also revealed the presence of ascorbic acid, riboflavin, thiamine and niacin in different crude fractions. (Naser M. AbdEIslam, Riaz Ullah, Muhammad Waseem, Iqbal Hussain, Shabir Ahmad.
