Bis(di-n-butyl)(2,3,6-trifluorobenzoato)- and bis(di-n-butyl)(2,3,4,5-tetrafluorobenzoato)tin oxides were synthesized and characterized by 1H, 13C, 19F and 119Sn NMR as well as by 119mSn Mossbauer spectroscopy. They were screened in vitro against six human tumour cell lines. MCF-7 and EVSAT. breast cancers, WiDr, a colon carcinoma, IGROV, an ovarian cancer, M19 MEL, a melanoma and A498, a renal cancer.

The crystal structure of the reaction product of the 2:3 condensation of salicylaldoxime with di-n-butyltin(IV) oxide, [(Bu2Sn)(Bu2SnO)(Bu2SnOH)(HONZO)(ONZO)], where HONZOH represents HON=CHC6H4OH (salicylaldoxime), was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction; it belongs to the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c, with a = 20.995(3) angstrom, b = 17.394(4) angstrom, c = 12.254(2) angstrom, beta = 94.43(2)degrees, and Z = 4. The synthesis and spectral characterization of six novel triphenyltin compounds are described. The in vitro antitumour activity of three of these compounds against two human tumour cell lines, MCF-7, a mammary tumour, and WiDr, a colon carcinoma, was determined. All three compounds are more active than cis-platin, etoposide and doxorubicin against both tumour cell lines. They are as active as mitomycin C against WiDr, but less active against MCF-7.

The synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of diorganotin(IV) bis(difluorobenzoates) [F2C6H3COO]2SnR2 [type a] and bis[diorgano(difluorobenzoato)tin(IV)] oxides {[(F2C6H3COO)R2Sn]2O}2 [type b] are described. An X-ray structure study has revealed compound 3b, {[(2,6-F2C6H3COO)(n-C4H9)2Sn]2O}2, to be dimeric and built around a planar Sn2O2 ring. The synthesis and characterization of tetraethylammonium (diorgano)halogeno(2, 6‐pyridinedicarboxylato)stannates are described. The solution structures of these complexes in CDCl3 and DMSO are discussed on the basis of 119Sn and 19F NMR data. The di-n-butyltin(IV) and diethyltin(IV) fluorobenzoates [FC6H4COO]2SnR2 and (FC6H4COOR2Sn)2O have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. Their in vitro antitumor activity against two human tumor cell lines, MCF-7, a mammary tumor, and WiDr, a colon carcinoma, as well as against the NCI cell panel, is satisfactory.

The X-ray crystal structures of [diethyl(2-methylthio-3-pyridinecarboxylato)tin] oxide (1a) and diethyltin bis(2-methylthio-3-pyridinecarboxylate) (1b) were determined. Compound 1a is a centrosymmetric dimer with two distinct types of carboxylate moieties and tin atoms with trigonal bipyramidal geometries.
