Abstract After three years of tests and developments, the performances of the AixMICADAS facility have been established for small CO2 samples with a carbon mass inferior to 100 μg. The instrument shows very good stability and reliability when measuring small samples with its gas ion source. In this configuration, the precision is mainly limited by counting statistics and also the accuracy by contamination effects for the smallest samples (

Atmospheric particulate matter (PM) affects the climate in various ways and has a negative impact on human health. In populated mountain valleys in Alpine regions , emissions from road traffic contribute to carbonaceous aerosols, but residential wood burning can be another source of PM during winter. Abstract A compact AMS system dedicated to measuring 14 C in ultra-small samples was installed at the CEREGE in Aix-en-Provence at the end of March 2014, together with an automated graphitization system.
