This study evaluates the utility of urinary pro-thrombotic molecules such as tissue factor (TF), anti-thrombotic molecules such as tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI), and fibrinolytic molecules such as plasmin and d-dimer as biomarkers of lupus nephritis (LN). Urine samples from 113 biopsy-proven LN patients (89 active LN and 24 inactive LN), 45 chronic kidney disease patients, and 41 healthy controls were examined for d-dimer, plasmin, TF, and TFPI levels by ELISA. The area under the receiv...

Introduction Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the most severe manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), resulting in increased morbidity and mortality. The gold standard for diagnosis of LN is a renal biopsy. Considering the importance of the biopsy in determining long-term prognostication and treatment decisions, it is crucial to assess renal histopathology with utmost accuracy and precision. This review represents a systematic search of published literature to estimate the degree of ...

Preaxial polydactyly (PPD) is a common congenital hand malformation classified into four subtypes (PPD I–IV). Variants in the zone of polarizing activity regulatory sequence (ZRS) within intron 5 of the LMBR1 gene are linked to most PPD types. However, the genes responsible for PPD I and the underlying mechanisms are unknown. A rare large four-generation family with isolated PPD I was subjected to genome-wide genotyping and sequence analysis. In vitro and in vivo functional studies were performe...

Abstract Background Here, we explore the serum levels of anti-oxidized lipid autoantibodies as well as immune complexes in patients with SLE and determine their correlation with disease. Methods Serum levels of oxidized-LDL immune complexes, autoantibodies to dsDNA, ox-LDL, MDA-LDL, 9-HODE, 13-HODE and POVPC were detected by ELISA in 64 SLE patients and 9 healthy controls. Results Active SLE patients exhibited increased serum levels of autoantibodies compared to healthy controls, including anti-...
