Abstract In this work, zein nanoparticles (NP) loaded with thymol (PEO/T-NP) and carvacrol (PEO/C-NP), were incorporated in poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) films. The present investigation details a green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) using the essential oil of Syzygium aromaticum L. (clove) as reducing agent, which is a matrix with a high content of eugenol, an important compound for the reducing action of silver nitrate. Abstract Methylcellulose is a biopolymer, which can be used in the preparation of films for the production of biodegradable active packaging. The pecan nut [Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh) C. Koch] is a natural source of polyphenols with antioxidant properties. Brewer's spent grain (BSG) was characterized by physicochemical, total phenolic compound and flavonoids contents. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by four different assays. The chromatographic analyses were used to quantify the phenolic compounds and the fatty acids in BSG. Ethanolic extracts were tested to evaluate antibacterial activity.
