Adsorption of the sulfuric acid anion (HSO4- or SO42-) has been studied on Pd(S)−[n(111) × (111)] electrodes (n = 2, 3, 5, 9, 20, infinity) using in situ infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). A single band is observed around 1200 cm-1 on all the electrodes. The band is assigned to the SO stretching vibration of the sulfuric acid anion adsorbed with three- or onefold geometry. The sulfuric acid anion (HSO4- or SO42-) adsorbed on Pd single-crystal electrodes was studied using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) in 0.05 M H2SO4 solution. Surfaces examined are flat ones (Pd(111) and Pd(100)) and stepped ones (Pd(110) (= 2(111)−(111)) and Pd(311) (= 2(111)−(100))). Abstract Voltammograms of stepped and kinked stepped surfaces of Pd (Pd(S)-[ n (111)×(100)] and Pd(S)-[ n (100)×(110)]) were measured in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 . Both series gave redox peaks around 0.25 V (RHE) for which the intensity decreases with the decrease of the terrace width in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 . No peak was observed around 0.25 V in 0.1 M HClO 4 .
