The efficacy of glipizide was assessed in 12 healthy volunteers following single-dose administration of a rapid-release soft gelatin capsule containing the drug in solution (2.5 and 5mg), in conventional tablet (2.5 and 5mg) and intravenous (2.5mg) formulations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the early alterations of retinal function, assessed with electrophysiology, in newly onset type 2 diabetes patients without vascular retinopathy. Background New drugs are generally claimed to represent a therapeutic innovation. However, scientific evidence of a substantial clinical advantage is often lacking. This may be the result of using inadequate control groups or surrogate outcomes only in the clinical trials. In view of this, EVITA was developed as a user-friendly transparent tool for the early evaluation of the additional therapeutic value of a new drug.
