Abstract Highly fluorinated gemini surfactants are relevant in pharmaceutical field, owing their ability to deliver genes to the respiratory or to the biliar epithelium, where hydrogenated interfering surfactants are present. Abstract A series of soft cationic surfactants, containing a saccharide-derived moiety in their hydrophilic grouping – 2-(alkyldimethylammonio) ethylgluconamide bromides, denoted as C n GAB, n = 10, 12, 14 and 16 – were analyzed with respect to their influence on the thermotropic phase behavior of phosphatidylcholine (DPPC)/cholesterol bilayers. The micellization processes of 2-(alkyldimethylammonio)ethylgluconamide bromides (CnGAB), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) and dodecylethyldimethylammonium bromide (DEDAB) were studied using solution conductivity and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). Abstract New linear cationic surfactants – 2-(alkyldimethylammonio)ethylgluconamide bromides, denoted as C n GAB, n = 10, 12, 14 and 16 – were synthesized from natural resources and characterized with respect to their potential as gene-delivery agents in gene therapy applications. Relationship for predicting Logcmc for cationic surfactants having chloride as counterion from only molecular connectivity indices was found. It is suggested that the index 0χν includes some information about hydrophobicity while indices 4χ pc and \({^{4}\chi^{\nu}_{pc}}\) include some information about hydrophilicity of the cationic surfactants studied. The structures of 23 compounds used for the correlation are quite diverse.
