Glaucoma, the silent thief of vision, is mostly caused by the gradual increase of pressure in the eye which is known as intraocular pressure (IOP). An effective way to prevent the rise in eye pressure is by early detection. Prior computer vision-based work regarding IOP relies on fundus images of the optic nerves. This paper provides a novel vision-based framework to help in the initial IOP screening using only frontal eye images. The framework first introduces the utilization of a fully convolu...

Intraocular pressure (IOP) in general refers to the pressure in the eyes. Gradual increase of IOP and high IOP are conditions/symptoms that may lead to certain diseases such as glaucoma and therefore must be closely monitored. While the pressure in the eye increases, different parts of the eye may become affected until the eye parts are damaged. An effective way to prevent rise in eye pressure is by early detection. A new smart healthcare framework is presented to evaluate the intraocular pressu...

This paper presents a novel framework to detect the status of intraocular pressure (normal/high) using solely frontal eye image analysis. The framework is based on machine learning approaches to extract six features from frontal eye images. These features include Pupil/Iris ratio, red area percentage, mean redness level of the sclera, and three novel features from the sclera contour (angle, area and distance). Four hundred frontal eye images were used as the image database. The images were taken...

Glaucoma is a disease that destroys the optic nerve of the eye. As a result, it causes vision loss or blindness. However, with immediate diagnosis and treatment, eyes can be protected against severe vision loss. Most vision loss cases due to Glaucoma are preventable if the disease is treated in the early stages. Most Glaucoma cases happen without signs and symptoms because peripheral vision can be damaged before an individual's central vision is affected. The existing procedures to detect Glauco...

Evaluating the anterior chamber angle with gonioscopy is an essential part of evaluating patients at risk of contracting glaucoma and neovascularization. It also provides useful information for patients with iris abnormalities or a history of trauma or ocular inflammation. Unfortunately, gonioscopy is underutilized by both optometrists and ophthalmologists. There are many symptoms that call for performing gonioscopy. One of the most common reasons for performing gonioscopy is in cases where the ...

Most individuals do not realize they have a broken vein in the eye until somebody lets them know or they look in a mirror. This condition is not tormenting, but commonly creates obtuse trauma to the eye. Treatment is often not required for subconjunctival drainage. In the event that a patient has recognized the presence of blood in his or her eye, it may be fitting for him or her to look for medical consideration. While a subconjunctival drain is occasionally risky, hyphema (blood in the front a...
