Abstract Terrestrial pre-salt sediments are not only good lithologic reservoirs similar to marine pre-salt carbonates, but also supposed to have high hydrocarbon generation potentials because terrestrial thick-bedded salts are generally deposited in basin centers. However, its status as source rocks has attracted much less attention than as reservoirs. In this paper, we choose the Qaidam Basin as an example and study the minerology, organic geochemistry, and organic petrology of the pre-salt sed...

The Bohai Bay and Hehuai (southern North China) rift basins in the eastern part of the North China Craton are south-north-adjacent. They have shown synchronous evolutionary processes, and possess generally identical superficial and shallow structural characteristics as well as similar basin areas. However, there is a large difference in the richness of oil resources between the two basins. The Bohai Bay Basin has extremely abundant oil reserves, while commercial oil reserves have not been found ...

U–Pb detrital zircon data from the Jurassic strata in the western Ordos Basin (WOB) show significant age differences between formations, from lower to upper including the Yan'an, Zhiluo, Anding, and Fenfanghe formations. The main peaks in the detrital zircon age spectra of the Yan'an Formation are at ca. 245, 444, 1813, and 2,387 Ma, which resemble those of the underlying Triassic strata in the WOB. Combined with the occurrence of reworked sporopollen and carbonate debris, the sediments of the Y...
