This study suggests that researches should look beyond the more often visible positive effects of alliances and social networks, to investigate how wicked webs can develop an efficient corrupted system. Bridging social network and alliances’ areas of research, this theoretical review proposes three pillars to understand and prevent corruption: focus in the internal networks of the firm which decide for corruption, the partners networks and how they are connected to the firm, and the mechanism th...
This study investigated the importance of partnerships with the Government for the development of the four types of innovation (product, process, organizational and marketing) by firms of two different groups of Central and Eastern Europe countries, including the European ex-soviet republics (countries that joined the European Union - CEUs, and countries that did not join it - CNEUs); and how each type of innovation affects the firms’ financial performance. To achieve this goal, we tested a samp...

Studies at the regional level, in their turn, are more scarce. The primary goal of this paper is to verify the influence of product and process innovations introduced by the firms in a region on its economic development, considering as...

This chapter analyses the trajectory of the Cabo Frio beachwear cluster in Brazil. Departing from the extant literature on cluster evolution, the study describes the stages of birth, take-off, growth, and maturity of the cluster, focusing specifically on the attempts to develop exporting activities. The results suggest that the lack of cooperation among local firms is the major reason behind the inability to internationalize, although one cannot dismiss the negative effects of the overvalued Bra...
This paper intends to understand the relationships among internal and external RD however, it positively moderated the relationship between strategic alliances and innovation performance, corroborating with the absorptive capacity theory. Contrary to our expectations, innovation performance had a negative influence on future financial performance. This was caused by the two-year lag between the measurement of the proxies of these two constructs, which was not long enough to allow identifying an ...
