Importance measures in reliability systems are used to identify weak single component or multiple components in contributing to proper functioning of the system. They can be used to analyze the structure optimization with component reliabilities for reconfigurable systems, and solve the system optimization problem for a kind of component assignment problem for the consecutive k out of n systems. In reconfigurable systems, the system structure can be changed by reordering the components. The opti...

The linear consecutive-k-out-of-n: failure (good) (Lin/Con/k/n:F(G)) system consists of n interchangeable components that have different reliabilities. These components are arranged in a line path and different component assignments change the system reliability. The optimization of Lin/Con/k/n:F(G) system is to find an optimal component assignment to maximize the system reliability. As the number of components increases, the computation time for this problem increases considerably. In this pape...

Importance measure can be used to identify the most vulnerable components with respect to system functionality or failure. Traditional importance measures may not be effective to evaluate the contribution of an individual component if its reliability value does not fall in the full range between 0 and 1. Based on the cost–reliability relation, this paper proposes a generalized Birnbaum importance measure (GBIM) to quantify the contribution of individual components to system reliability improveme...

A novel systematic framework, infrared thermography- (IRT-) based method, for rotating machinery fault diagnosis under nonstationary running conditions is presented in this paper. In this framework, IRT technique is first applied to obtain the thermograph. Then, the fault features are extracted using bag-of-visual-word (BoVW) from the IRT images. In the end, support vector machine (SVM) is utilized to automatically identify the fault patterns of rotating machinery. The effectiveness of proposed ...

Abstract This paper studies the optimal component allocation policy of a k − out - of − n system composed of n independent subsystems. Each subsystem includes one or several allocative components arranged in parallel [series], and these allocative components are drawn from a randomly selected batch of manufactured components. We compare two allocation policies by means of the majorization order. As a consequence, we get the optimal allocation policy under the constraint of the maximum number of ...

Reconfigurable systems have been widely used in practical engineering, especially for the reconfigurable computing systems and reconfigurable manufacturing systems. The reliability of reconfigurable systems can be improved by components replacement or components rearrangement without changing their reliability. Combining the advantages of the rearrangement method and replacement method, an integrated method is proposed to improve the reconfigurable system reliability cost-effectively in this pap...

Traditional importance measures seldom consider how the number of failed components influences the network reliability. This paper proposes two importance measures under the circumstance that the failure sequence of the components follows a counting process. The first importance measure aims to assess the contribution of the individual component (edge) to the network failure. The second evaluates the contribution of the individual component to the network functionality. Both importance measures ...

Multi-scale permutation entropy (MPE) is a statistic indicator to detect nonlinear dynamic changes in time series, which has merits of high calculation efficiency, good robust ability, and independence from prior knowledge, etc. However, the performance of MPE is dependent on the parameter selection of embedding dimension and time delay. To complete the automatic parameter selection of MPE, a novel parameter optimization strategy of MPE is proposed, namely optimized multi-scale permutation entro...
