Ligztlaria vellerea and L. melanothyrsa have been found to share chemical characteristics based on geography. Twelve new compounds, namely, five melanothyrsins A-E (1 alpha-angeloyloxyeremophilenolides), normelanothyrsin A (1 alpha-angeloyloxynoreremophilenone), and six other eremophilane-type compounds, have been isolated from Ligularia melanothyrsa Hand.-Mazz. (Asteraceae), collected in the Sichuan Province of China. Six of the compounds have a 1 alpha-angeloyloxy moiety, while the other six have no functional group at the C-1 position. Chemical constituents and evolutionally neutral DNA sequences of six samples of Cremanthodium lineare Maxim., collected in the Sichuan Province of China, were studied. Three samples produced furanoeremophilanes and the other three, eremophilan-8-ones. Four new eremophilane-type sesquiterpenoid alcohols were isolated from Cremanthodium helianthus collected in China and their structures established on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. All of them had 9-en-8-one partial structures with one more double bond either Delta(11), Delta(11(13)), or Delta(7(11)). Two of them had a hydroxy group at C-1 position.

Two samples of Cremanthodium stenactinium (Asteraceae) were collected in Sichuan Province, China. From the ethyl acetate extracts of the roots, three new eremophilane-type sesquiterpenoids and one new trinoreremophilane compound were isolated, together with other known eremophilanes. Their structures were determined based on the spectroscopic data. This is the first report of isolation of eremophilane-type compounds from the genus Cremanthodium.

Five new 1 beta-angeloyloxyeremophilanolides (subspicatins H-L) and 1 beta-angeloyloxytetranoreremophilanone (norsubspicatin A), were isolated from the EtOAc extracts of Parasenecio petasitoides and their structures established on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. They are biogenetically mutually related to each other and represent a new category in the Parasenecio group. These findings suggest that there is diversity in this species, too. Root chemicals and evolutionarily neutral DNA regions in L. cyathiceps samples collected in the Zhongdian (Shangrila) County of Yunnan, P. R. China, were examined.
