Abstract Discontinuation of denosumab is associated with the increase of bone turnover markers to above-baseline levels (so-called rebound in bone turnover) and rapid bone loss. Several studies have reported vertebral fractures (VFs), particularly multiple spontaneous clinical VFs (MSCVFs), occurring after discontinuation of denosumab. There is currently no recommendation for the management of VFs including MSCVFs. Presently, romosozumab is the strongest anti-osteoporotic agent that inhibits scl...

Second-generation bicruciate stabilized (BCS) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was developed to substitute both anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments and replicate physiological kinematics. This study aimed to evaluate if the post-cam mechanism and the surface geometry function effectively. Seventeen and twelve knees implanted with BCS TKA and posterior-stabilized (PS) TKA, respectively, were analyzed. In vivo kinematics during deep knee flexion were estimated from single-plane fluoroscopic ima...

Retrospective comparable study.Postoperative loss of correction, which is referred to as the distal adding-on phenomenon, sometimes occurs during the postoperative course in Lenke type 1 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Selection of the lowest instrumented vertebra (LIV) has been reported to be one of the significant factors for preventing distal adding-on. However, proximal parameters, such as the Cobb angle of the proximal thoracic (PT) curve, radiographic shoulder height, and T1 tilt, w...

Abstract BACKGROUND CONTEXT The effects of using off-label recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP)-2 for interbody fusion are controversial. While animal models of posterolateral fusion are well-established, establishing animal models to validate the safety and efficacy of interbody fusion is difficult, which may contribute to the inconsistent clinical results. PURPOSE To develop a novel animal model of interbody fusion in rat coccygeal vertebrae without destroying bony endplates. S...

Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor in adolescence and childhood. Metastatic osteosarcoma has a poor prognosis with an overall 5-year survival rate of approximately 20 %. TAS-115 is a novel multiple receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor that is currently undergoing clinical trials. Using the mouse highly lung-metastatic osteosarcoma cell line, LM8, we showed that TAS-115 suppressed the growth of subcutaneous grafted tumor and lung metastasis of osteosarcoma at least partially throu...

A fracture that does not unite in nine months is defined as non-union. Non-union is common in fragmented fractures and large bone defects where vascularization is impaired. The distal third of the tibia, the scaphoid bone or the talus fractures are furthermore prone to non-union. Open fractures and spinal fusion cases also need special monitoring for healing. Bone tissue regeneration can be attained by autografts, allografts, xenografts and synthetic materials, however their limited availability...

PURPOSE: Partial meniscectomy can cause osteoarthritic changes in knees, as inner portion as well as peripheral portion of meniscus is important. The hypothesis of this study was that the amount of the inner resection of medial meniscus affected the in situ forces through the meniscus and the tibial varus and external rotation under axial load. METHODS: Fourteen intact porcine knees were investigated with a six-degree of freedom robotic system and force/moment, and the three-dimensional path of ...
