Abstract This study compares liquid fuel combustion characteristics of biofuels derived from camelina (POSF6152) and tallow (POSF6308) with a US domestic aviation fuel (Jet-A, POSF4658) using the spherically symmetric (one-dimensional) droplet flame configuration as the basis of comparison. A blend of camelina biofuel and Jet-A is also examined. The initial droplet diameters were fixed at 0.57 ± 0.03 mm. This study presents an experimental effort and detailed numerical simulation of the burning process of an ester-based biodiesel fuel droplet – methyl decanoate (MD). Abstract Combustion characteristics of isolated sub-millimeter sized methyl butanoate (MB) droplets are studied at low gravity (10 −4 m/s 2 ) in a 1.2 s drop tower.
