Icodextrin enhances peritoneal filtration for patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). However, clinically important outcomes have not yet been analyzed using authentic, objective statistical methods. The present systematic review aimed to determine the risks and benefits of icodextrin compared with a glucose-based solution with respect to clinically important and patient-centered outcomes. We systematically investigated only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) by adopting the Cochrane Database of ...

The International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis guidelines recommends the topical application of antibiotics on the exit site for the prevention of peritoneal dialysis (PD)-related infections. However, the recommendation is based on meta-analyses on applying nasal mupirocin ointment or observational or retrospective studies. Here, we evaluated the efficacy of topical application of mupirocin on the exit site for the prevention of PD-related infections. We searched the databases, MEDLINE and CE...

In Japan, the first case of COVID-19 in dialysis patients was reported on March 1, 2020. A total of 31 cases were reported by April 10, and it increased to 95 by May 15. Thereafter, with the rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the general population since late March, there was a not surprising increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in dialysis patients. The mortality rate is 16.2% (16/99 cases) in dialysis patients, which is higher than 5.3% (874/16532 cases) in the general popul...

Peritonitis is a common and clinically important complication in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis (PD). Antibiotic administration is essential for PD-related peritonitis, but routes of administration have not been established enough. Here, we performed a systematic review to assess the efficacy and safety of intraperitoneal (IP) antibiotic administration compared to intravenous (IV) antibiotic administration in patients with PD-related peritonitis. Cochrane CENTRAL, MEDLINE, and Ichushi-We...

: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous JR-131, a darbepoetin alfa biosimilar, to darbepoetin alfa in hemodialysis patients with renal anemia. In this 24-week, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, parallel-group phase 3 study, 334 hemodialysis patients with renal anemia who had been receiving darbepoetin alfa were randomized to either JR-131 or darbepoetin alfa group. The initial dose was set based on the darbepoetin alfa dose during the observation peri...

: The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of JR-131, a biosimilar of darbepoetin alfa, for long-term treatment of renal anemia patients undergoing hemodialysis. In this multicenter, single-arm, phase 3 study, 159 patients with renal anemia who had been receiving darbepoetin alfa or recombinant human erythropoietins were treated with intravenous JR-131 for 52 weeks. In patients receiving darbepoetin alfa, JR-131 was administered at the same dose, while in patients rece...

: TRK-100STP, a sustained-release preparation of the orally active prostacyclin analogue beraprost sodium, targets renal hypoxia. This study aimed to show the superiority of TRK-100STP over placebos in patients with chronic kidney disease (with either primary glomerular disease or nephrosclerosis) to determine the recommended dose. CASSIOPEIR (Chronic Renal Failure Asian Study with Oral PGI2 Derivative for Evaluating Improvement of Renal Function) was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controll...
