Abstract In this study, we obtained copper nanoparticle (Cu NP) films exhibiting low resistivity and strong adhesion with respect to various substrates by drop-casting the Cu NP ink with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) after being sintered at 250 °C. PVP functioned as a dispersant in the ink and as an adhesive at the interfaces between the Cu NPs and the substrates. Aggregation of the Cu NPs in the ink resulted in the creation of a porous NP film after drop-casting, and the contact area between the P...

Abstract A real-time control system for the deposition location of electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) has been newly developed and applied to experiments on the Large Helical Device (LHD). Appropriate settings for a steerable launcher for ECRH were obtained by evaluating the deposition location and the absorption power for various electron density profiles using a ray-tracing code. The real-time deposition location control system adjusts launcher settings to improve the first-pass absor...

Atlantoaxial rotatory fixation (AARF) in an adult without any trauma is an extremely rare condition. Here we report a case of surgical treatment for existing atlantoaxial rotatory fixation in an adult with spastic torticollis. A 50-year-old man had become aware of torticollis without any cause of injury 6 weeks before he visited our hospital, where he presented with a one-week history of severe neck pain. Based on the local and imaging findings, we diagnosed him as having existing AARF of Fieldi...

Intranuclear proteins, including high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) and histone H3, released from inflammatory cells activate platelets and the coagulation systems, leading to development of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in individuals with sepsis. These observations prompted us to hypothesize that HMGB1 and histone H3 liberated from leukemia cells undergoing apoptosis after chemotherapy might play a role in development of DIC. To test this hypothesis, we prospectively measured pla...

The two cardiac progenitor cell lineages, cardiac neural crest cells (cNCCs) and the second heart field (SHF), play key roles in the development of the cardiac outflow tract (OFT). Both cardiac progenitor cells interact with each other and contribute to OFT formation cooperatively. The neurovascular guiding molecule, semaphorin 3c (Sema3c), is thought to serve as a key attractant for the migration of cNCCs. A previous study reported that Tbx1 null mice showed a significant reduction in Sema3c ex...

We prospectively investigated the prognostic value of urinary liver-type fatty-acid-binding protein (L-FABP) levels on hospital admission, both independently and in combination with serum creatinine-defined acute kidney injury (AKI), to predict long-term adverse outcomes in 1119 heterogeneous patients (mean age; 68 years) treated at medical (non-surgical) cardiac intensive care units (CICUs). Patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease were excluded from the study. Of these patients, 47% had ac...

Abstract Predictors of peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) yield can potentially improve the comfort, safety, and efficacy of CD34+ cell collection from donors treated with recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). We investigated 181 apheresis procedures on 109 healthy allogeneic donors to identify factors correlating with efficient PBSC collection. Apheresis started on Day 4 or 5 and continued up to Day 6 of G-CSF administration. CD34+ cell yields on Days 4 and 5 were comp...

Isotope effects of ECRH plasma in LHD were investigated in detail. A clear difference of transport and turbulence characteristics in H and D plasmas was found in the core region, with normalized radius ρ<0.8 in high collisionality regime. On the other hand, differences of transport and turbulence were relatively small in low collisionality regime. Power balance analysis and neoclassical calculation showed a reduction of the anomalous contribution to electron and ion transport in D plasma compar...
