Background Weight gain after liver transplantation (LT) is a predictor of major morbidity and mortality post-LT; however, there are no data regarding weight loss following LT. The current study evaluates the effectiveness of standard lifestyle intervention in LT recipients.

Abstract Background Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist, obeticholic acid (OCA), increases total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The present study evaluated the impact of OCA therapy on lipoprotein sub-particles. Method The study included 196 patients (99 OCA group and 97 placebo) who were enrolled in the FLINT trial and had samples available for lipid analysis and liver biopsies at enrollment and end-of-treatment (EOT) at 72 w...

Abstract Background & Aims Liver transplantation is the only treatment that increases survival times of patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Patients who live further away from a transplant center are disadvantaged. Health care delivery via telehealth is an effective way to remotely manage patients with decompensated cirrhosis. We investigated the effects of telehealth on the liver transplant evaluation process. Methods We performed a retrospective study of 465 patients who underwent evaluatio...

Decompensated cirrhosis is associated with high morbidity and mortality in the absence of liver transplantation (LT) [(1)][1]. LT is a high-risk surgery, and all potential LT waitlist registrants undergo extensive workup to assess and optimize their surgical risk; an integral part of this is cardiac

The heterogeneity of biological processes driving the severity of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as reflected in the transcriptome and the relationship between the pathways involved are not well established. Well-defined associations between gene expression profiles and disease progression would benefit efforts to develop novel therapies and to understand disease heterogeneity. We analyzed hepatic gene expression in controls and a cohort with the full histological spectrum of NAFLD. Pr...
