Protein dephosphorylation mediated by serine/threonine protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) plays critical roles in regulation of abiotic stress responses in plants. Here, we report the involvement of a B″ regulatory subunit of PP2A in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), TaPP2AbB″-γ, in the positive regulation of stress responses. The transcript of TaPP2AbB″-γ was induced in roots of wheat seedlings by salinity, drought, cold stresses and exogenous ABA application. Overexpression of TaPP2AbB″-γ enhanced the ...

Abstract Stress associated proteins (SAPs) are the A20/AN1 zinc-finger proteins which confer to abiotic stresses in plants. In this study, TaSAP7-B, including two AN1 domains, was isolated from B genome of wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.). Sequencing analysis on TaSAP7-B illustrated one InDel (insertion-deletion) and one SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) in the promoter region while no diversity was observed in the coding region. On the basis of SNP in the promoter region (–260 bp), a dCAPS (der...

Maintaining high and stable yields has become an increasing challenge in wheat breeding due to climate change. Although Squamosa-promoter binding protein (SBP)-box genes have important roles in plant development, very little is known about the actual biological functions of wheat SBP-box family members. Here, we dissect the functional conservation, divergence, and exploitation of homoeologs of two paralogous TaSPL wheat loci during domestication and breeding. TaSPL20 and TaSPL21 were highly expr...

Abstract Fructans are major nonstructural carbohydrates in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Fructan 1-fructosyltransferase (1-FFT) is the key enzyme in fructan biosynthesis. In the present study, 96 sequence variants were detected in the 1-FFT-A1 gene among 26 wheat accessions including UR208, and 15 of them result in amino acid substitutions, forming four haplotypes. Two markers M39 and M2164 were developed based on the InDel21-39 and SNP-2164 polymorphisms to distinguish the three haplotypes in t...

Plant specific protein kinase SnRK2s play crucial roles in response to various environmental stimuli. TaSnRK2.3, a SnRK2 member, was involved in the response to multiple abiotic stresses in wheat. To facilitate the use of TaSnRK2.3 in wheat breeding, the three genomic sequences of TaSnRK2.3, originating from the A, B, and D genomes of hexaploid wheat, were obtained. Sequence polymorphism assays showed four and ten variations were detected at TaSnRK2.3-1A and at TaSnRK2.3-1B, respectively, yet no...

AP2/EREBPs play significant roles in plant growth and development. The novel, pleiotropic TaPARG (PLANT ARCHITECTURE-RELATED GENE), a member of the AP2/EREBP transcription factor gene family, and its flanking sequences were isolated in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Two TaPARG genes were identified and named as TaPARG-2A and TaPARG-2D. Their amino acid sequences were highly similar especially in the functional domains. TaPARG-2A on chromosome 2A was flanked by markers Xwmc63 and Xgwm372. TaPARG-2...
