Abstract SALEN- and SALAN-based complexes with catalytically active metal centers are very promising small molecules to be utilized as part of antioxidant therapies. Abstract Ionizing radiation induced degradation of two fluoroquinolone antibiotics, ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin was investigated in 0.1 mmol dm –3 aqueous solutions. The rate constants, directly determined by pulse radiolysis, were 7.2 × 10 9 mol –1 dm 3 s –1 and 5.4 × 10 9 mol –1 dm 3 s –1 for • OH reaction and 8.2 × 10 9 mol –1 dm 3 s –1 and 7.3 × 10 9 mol –1 dm 3 s –1 for hydrated electron reaction with ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin, respectively. Abstract The synthesis of four new enantiopure crown ethers containing a diarylphosphinic acid unit has been carried out. As a continuation of our work in this field, the enantioselective transport ability of these ligands for chiral amines has been studied in an aqueous source phase/lipophilic organic bulk liquid membrane/aqueous receiving phase system controlled by the pH of the media. By altering the structures of the carriers we improved the enantioselectivity of the transport.

Lead is a particularly toxic heavy metal that is present above acceptable levels in the water of many countries. This article describes a quick detection method of lead(II) ions using a polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-based ion-selective membrane electrode containing an acridono-crown ether ionophore by potentiometry. Abstract This work aimed at investigating the ionizing radiation induced degradation of two fluoroquinolone antibiotics: norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin. At 0.1 mmol dm −3 concentration a low dose, 2 kGy was sufficient to degrade the initial molecules. This paper describes the X-ray crystal structure of a complex of acridino-18-crown-6 ether (S,S)-2 and sodium perchlorate. The structure shows a homodimer in the crystal and suggests the potential for π–π bonded interactions between the monomers.
