Background:Monitoring levels of physical activity, as an outcome or in guiding rehabilitation, is challenging for clinicians. Personal activity monitors are increasing in popularity and provide potential to enhance rehabilitation protocols. However, research to support the validity and reliability of these devices at jogging and running speeds is limited. Purpose:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of the Fitbit Flex™ and ActiGraph GT3X + for measuring step count at jogging an...

Summary This study assessed whether hypoxia during high-load resistance exercise could enhance the acute physiological responses related to muscular development. Twelve trained men performed exercise in three conditions: normoxia (fraction of inspired oxygen [FIO2] = 21%), moderate-level hypoxia (FIO2 = 16%) and high-level hypoxia (FIO2 = 13%). Exercise comprised high-load squats and deadlifts (5 × 5 using 80% of 1-repetition maximum with 180-s rest). Muscle oxygenation and activation were monit...

Understanding the demands associated with cricket match-play is essential for the development and implementation of training programs to improve the conditioning status of players. With the recent expansion of playing formats in cricket, particularity Twenty20 cricket, coaching staff must ensure that training programs are specific to each playing position and also give consideration to each match format. The current literature collectively highlights that the physical and physiological demands a...

ABSTRACTThis study adopted a multidimensional approach to performance prediction within Olympic distance cross-country mountain biking (XCO-MTB). Twelve competitive XCO-MTB cyclists (VO2max 60.8 ± 6.7 ml · kg−1 · min−1) completed an incremental cycling test, maximal hand grip strength test, cycling power profile (maximal efforts lasting 6–600 s), decision-making test and an individual XCO-MTB time-trial (34.25 km). A hierarchical approach using multiple linear regression analyses was used to dev...

Abstract Objectives To compare positional differences in the physical and technical demands of Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) match-play. A secondary aim was to examine the time course changes in activity profiles during AFLW match-play. Design Longitudinal observational study. Methods Global positioning system data were collected from 26 players (6 positional groups) from the same club during seven AFLW matches. Absolute and relative physical performance data were categorised into to...
