Abstract In this work, zein nanoparticles (NP) loaded with thymol (PEO/T-NP) and carvacrol (PEO/C-NP), were incorporated in poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) films. Structural, mechanical, optical, wettability, thermal, morphological, antioxidant potential and controlled released properties were investigated in the nanocomposite films produced. Abstract Innovative biodegradable packaging with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties was developed, and functionalized with Acca sellowiana waste by-product (feijoa peel flour, FPF). Physicochemical, morphological, antioxidant, antimicrobial properties, and in situ application in the postharvest conservation of apple were conducted with the packaging produced. The present investigation details a green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) using the essential oil of Syzygium aromaticum L. (clove) as reducing agent, which is a matrix with a high content of eugenol, an important compound for the reducing action of silver nitrate.
