Abstract Background Women are undertreated and have worse clinical outcomes than men after acute myocardial infarction. It remains uncertain whether the sex disparities in treatments and outcomes persist in the contemporary era and whether they affect all age groups equally. Methods Using the National Inpatient Sample registry, we evaluated 1,260,200 hospitalizations for ST-elevation myocardial infarction between 2010 and 2016, of which 32% were for women. The age-stratified sex differences in c...

Abstract Background There is paucity of data on racial disparities in the utilization and outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR). Methods We queried the National inpatient Sample database (2012–2016) for TMVR hospitalizations among Caucasian and African American patients. We conducted a propensity score matching analysis to compare outcomes of Caucasians versus African Americans. The main study outcome was in-hospital mortality. Results Among 7940 TMVR procedures performed, 680 (8....

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Short sleep duration is associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, it is uncertain whether sleep debt, a measure of sleep deficiency during the week compared to the weekend, confers increased cardiovascular risk. Because sleep disturbances increase with age particularly in women, we examined the relationship between sleep debt and ideal cardiovascular health (ICH) in older women. METHODS: Sleep debt is defined as the difference between self-reported t...
