Abstract Objective To develop a registration procedure to achieve a higher degree of registration accuracy in image-guided otological surgery, paying particular attention to the registration centroid. Methods A head phantom was used to measure the target registration error (TRE) at measurement points at various depth from the surface of the head. The surface-matching registration was performed using a commercially available surgical navigation system. We registered the phantom using only one ear...

In Japan, the first endoscopic surgery, a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, was performed in 1990. Since then, operative procedures have been standardized, and the safety and efficacy of endoscopic surgery have been evaluated. In accordance with the social acceptance of endoscopic surgery as a less invasive type of surgery, the number of endoscopic procedures performed has increased in all surgical domains. The Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery (JSES) has played an important role in the developme...

We herein introduce our recent research on an image-guided surgery (IGS) interface for otological procedures. We designed the IGS screen to show selected information that is considered to be most important for the surgeon. Since the “importance” of this information changes during a surgical procedure, the information on the screen is selected and updated during an operation. As a result, surgeons found that essential information was highlighted because the system minimized the overall amount of ...

Cancerassociated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote the progression of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) via tumorstromal interactions. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are extracellular DNA meshworks released from neutrophils together with proteolytic enzymes against foreign pathogens. Emerging studies suggest their contribution to liver metastasis in several types of cancer. Herein, in order to investigate the role of NETs in liver metastasis in PDAC, the effects of NET inhibitors on sponta...

Abstract Background Biomedical imaging devices that utilize the optical characteristics of hemoglobin (Hb) have become widespread. In the field of gastroenterology, there is a strong demand for devices that can apply this technique to surgical navigation. We aimed to introduce our novel multispectral device capable of intraoperatively performing quantitative imaging of the oxygen (O2) saturation and Hb amount of tissues noninvasively and in real time, and to examine its application for deciding ...
