We herein introduce our recent research on an image-guided surgery (IGS) interface for otological procedures. We designed the IGS screen to show selected information that is considered to be most important for the surgeon. Since the “importance” of this information changes during a surgical procedure, the information on the screen is selected and updated during an operation. As a result, surgeons found that essential information was highlighted because the system minimized the overall amount of ...

The mechanism underlying tissue fusion mediated by laser irradiation remains unclear. We clarify the mechanisms underlying laser-mediated tissue fusion using a novel model. Microscopic examinations of morphological changes within the adventitia of a bovine carotid artery and a collagen sheet prepared from bovine dermis showed collagen fibril bundle loosening and collagen fibre swelling following heating at 46 °C. An incised bovine carotid artery covered with a collagen sheet to which pressure an...

Background Extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) have been related to multiple cancers, including breast cancer, hepatocellular cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. ERK1/2 inhibitor can suppress growth of KRAS-mutant pancreatic tumors by targeting cancer cell. However, no studies have shown the expression of ERK1/2 on pancreatic stromal and its effect on pancreatic cancer–stromal interaction.

Abstract Background Biomedical imaging devices that utilize the optical characteristics of hemoglobin (Hb) have become widespread. In the field of gastroenterology, there is a strong demand for devices that can apply this technique to surgical navigation. We aimed to introduce our novel multispectral device capable of intraoperatively performing quantitative imaging of the oxygen (O 2 ) saturation and Hb amount of tissues noninvasively and in real time, and to examine its application for decidin...

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) provides more detailed information than red-green-blue (RGB) imaging, and therefore has potential applications in computer-aided pathological diagnosis. This study aimed to develop a pattern recognition method based on HSI, called hyperspectral analysis of pathological slides based on stain spectrum (HAPSS), to detect cancers in hematoxylin and eosin-stained pathological slides of pancreatic tumors. The samples, comprising hyperspectral cubes of 420–750 nm, were harve...
