Some previously described environmental associations for atopic eczema may be due to reverse causation. We explored the role of reverse causation by comparing individual- and school-level results for multiple atopic eczema risk factors. The International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (i.e, ISAAC) Phase Three surveyed children in schools (the sampling unit) regarding atopic eczema symptoms and potential risk factors. We assessed the effect of these risk factors on atopic eczema sympt...

The prevalence of allergic airway diseases such as asthma and rhinitis has increased dramatically to epidemic proportions worldwide. Besides air pollution from industry derived emissions and motor vehicles, the rising trend can only be explained by gross changes in the environments where we live. The world economy has been transformed over the last 25 years with developing countries being at the core of these changes. Around the planet, in both developed and developing countries, environments ar...

RESULTS: There were 1005 patients evaluated for possible drug hypersensitivity reactions during the study interval, and 264 (26.3%) met criteria for DIA. DIA was more frequent in adults and in elderly females (N [ 129 [76.6%] and N [ 30 [75%], respectively) compared with children and/or adolescents (N [ 21 [42.9%], P < .01). Severe DIA was less frequent with underlying asthma (N [ 22 vs 35 [38.6% vs 61.4%], P < .05) or atopy (N [ 62 vs 71 [43% vs 59% ], P < .01). Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory d...

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is increasing in prevalence and becoming more difficult to treat. There is a subset of patients who are refractory to ARIA-defined rhinitis management approaches [1]. Even though new treatments have been made available for symptomatic relief, no new class of medication was forthcoming, until recently. The situation has now changed. MP29-02* is a novel intranasal formulation of azelastine hydrochloride (AZE) and fluticasone propionate (FP) in an advanced delivery system. It...
